Local schools can effect property values and your quality of life. I know the local schools very well. The schools in the western suburbs of Chicago are generally very well regarded.

How do I know which schools students will attend?
Illinois school district boundaries don't neccesarily strictly follow community boundaries so I have included a directory that has school district numbers by town. The Chicago area features a wide range of Catholic schools and Independent schools as well as an excellent Community College system. How good are the schools?
Generally the schools are viewed favorably, although the answer to the question is really based on individual experiences and prefernces. One way to compare schools is based on test scores and other demographics. The Illinois School Board of Education publishes School Profiles and Report Cards annually. What extracurricular Activities are available?
To find out about sports and other activities and competitions, there are separate bodies that govern Elementary and High School activities. Check individual School websites to make sure that school has the activities you are interested in. Illinois Elementary School Association Illinois High School Association
How do the local schools compare nationally?
One of the best sites I have found for comparing schools across the country is "SchoolMatters.com: A public source of information and analysis about the nation's public schools." This site is loaded with statistics, articles and has a huge national database of schools.
